Assessment of abattoir waste management: Evidences from Kano central Abattoir, Northwestern Nigeria

Abattoir waste disposal in many developing countries like Nigeria, has been a very serious challenge over the years. In most cases, materials are disposed of without regard to sound environmental management practices; which makes it harmful humans and other terrestrial aquatic life. Thus, major aim study was assess practices Kano central abattoir. A total number 100 respondents primarily butchers were randomly selected from population. structured questionnaire designed served as primary source information on abattoir 70% described good, 20% moderate while 10% evaluated poor process. The wastes treated prior storage sanitary bin before final is conducted frequently. However, there provision utilization protective gadgets with relative magnitude recycling technology despite constraints level education. Hence, practice critically important considered good. It can be recommended that, sensitization adoption recent best by personnel should encouraged.
